About Us:

OUTLINE OF THE TYPE OF
NETWORK SUPPORT OFFERED TO PRACTITIONERS:

Facilitate Links Through Local Regional and Cross Border Networks:

  • A forum is provided for practitioners to explore regional, national and international commonalities and differences.
  • Commitment to facilitate strong, effective and ongoing intersectoral links, communications and planning of services between local, regional, cross border, all Ireland and international networks.

Promote Partnership and Interagency Cooperation:

  • Strong commitment to working with a broad range of statutory,
    voluntary and community organisations.
  • A multi-sectoral membership within the Network from the statutory, voluntary and community sector enables the cross fertilisation of strategic approaches to working with young people.
  • Regular regional events, the publication of a newsletter/journal and the promotion of information through the organisation’s website facilitates interagency co-operation.

Collate, Document and Share Good Practice:

  • Commitment to a communication system that
promotes awareness of information on prevention,
intervention and post-intervention services for young people at risk.
  • Coordinate information events to raise the profile of the different experiences and understanding of interventions being developed to support young people at risk throughout the country.
  • Encourage the sharing of models of good practice.

Informed Support For Practitioners:

  • Document and disseminate any comprehensive information analysis on the reasons why young people especially the disadvantaged are at risk.
  • Provide information on regional and national training events regarding the characteristics and interventions for young people at risk.
  • Regional representatives act as a resource for the dissemination of information and organisational support.

Influence Policy and Programme Development:

  • A collective voice to practitioners regarding advocacy work, particularly individuals who do not have the opportunity to impact on national policy through their own organisation.
  • Lobby for the rights of poorly paid or disorganised practitioners working with young people at risk.
  • Promote practitioners understanding of the policy and legislative frameworks that underpin serviced provision for young people at risk.
  • Prepare submissions aimed at providing a clear insight into the specific needs of practitioners working with young people at risk living in Ireland.
  • Advocate for the development of prevention, intervention and post-intervention services for young people at risk.

How to Participate in Breaking Through:

There are many ways you can participate in the Network, but first you do need to become a member! If you have not paid your subscription fee then please do so now! Remember, places for the next conference will be offered to members first

  • We have a journal working group, who source and edit articles, and oversee the content of the quarterly journal. Contact any of those in the working group if you would like to get involved.
  • Many of the Network activities will be taking place at regional level, and help will always be needed in organising and promoting events, consulting with members, and so on. Talk to your regional representatives about getting involved.
  • Document something from your own practice, and contribute to the journal and/or website. We always need articles which outline innovative programmes, share experiences, and examine issues.
