First Regional Meeting (Report)

The North-East region held their first meeting on 6th June, 2000, in St. Patrick`s Trian, Armagh. It was attended by eleven members from across the region, with the exception of Co. Louth. Individuals represented a range of both statuatory and voluntary agencies working with young people at risk.

Members used the opportunity to share information about their individual projects and to gather information about other projects and initiatives in their own locality and further afield. They also used the opportunity to discuss and share with their regional representatives how Breaking Through could best serve them as members.

A number of gaps in service provision were identified, particularly in the Border region, with discussion ensuing re the need for a mechanism to facilitate cross-border and inter-regional referrals. Additionally, greater communication and co-ordination between projects at local levels was considered positive which could lead to the development of new, and in some instances, perhaps more effective service provision.

A greater need to involve and support parents was considered a priority and will be the focus of the next regional meeting being held on Thursday 7th September, 2000, in the Carrigdale Hotel, Dundalk. All welcome. (Individuals from Co. Louth take particular note!)

All in all the first meeting for North-East region members was useful informative and, believe it or not, a bit of crack in places!! Try not to miss the next one if possible, and please spread to word to others who may not yet be aware of the opportunity and possibility that Breaking Through members are creating. See you There!
