INFORMATION SEMINARS:

A Regional meeting/workshop of the South West Region was held on the 13th December in Rathkeale, Co. Limerick. Martin McCormack a bereavement counsellor in the college gave a presentation focusing on the ever-growing problem of young people and suicide.
A presentation was also given by local Garda on the abuse of drugs in modern society, including a number of indicators on the recognition of a drug taker. A big attendance was expected but due to it being on in the evening, the numbers attended didn’t match our expectation. The general comment afterwards was that the event was highly informative and proved to be very useful in relation to their work.

Workshop Themes:

  • Facts and figures in relation to Suicide across Europe
  • Emotional and behavioural changes associated with suicide
  • Suicide and Para –suicide
  • What can we do to help?
  • Factors leading to suicide
  • Some myths about suicide
  • Contact details of support agencies and a bibliography of further reading

Dear Colleague,

We are inviting you to a Regional Seminar of the Breaking Through network on the topic of suicide prevention. The Breaking Through network provides the opportunity to network with colleagues from a variety of different agencies working with young people at risk. The Seminar will also be useful for parents.

This Regional Seminar of the South West Region has been arranged for Wednesday, 10th December in the Rathkeale House Hotel, Rathkeale, Co. Limerick. The official opening will be at 7.00 p.m. It will conclude at 10.00 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Meeting will be presented by Martin McCormack, s.d.b., who is a bereavement counsellor working in a local secondary school in Co. Limerick. His presentation will focus on the ever-growing problem of young people and suicide. There will also be a representative from the Garda Siochana to give a presentation on the misuse of drugs in society during the evening. We enclose information on the objectives, ethos and background of the Breaking Through network for your perusal.
